Lantau abounds with temples, one bustling, others tranquil. There are winding coastal paths and tough mountain trails. Waterfalls tumble through secluded ravines.

Under British rule, Lantau mostly remained a rural backwater.

Thanks to its seclusion, Lantau also attracted monks.
